After sampling a few pints of Olde Eden's new Hoppy Heaven Ale, Jack discovers that a gang of American Indian Trickster gods are distributing the beer, brewed with water drawn from the Fountain of Youth, to every bar in Eden city limits. The crotchety old gods are never happy when people start attaining Eternal Life like it's every nobody's business (it always ends badly, usually for the people), and folks around town are slurping down Hoppy Heaven Ale like it's the nectar of the gods.
In the company of a Greek goddess of death, a renowned detective, and a duo of Mind-wielding Zen monks, he sets out on a journey spanning mythical worlds to prevent the end of the known world. And along the way must realize he has very much in common with the Tricksters that started the whole fiasco, or the Earth may drown in great beer.

Well-written and funny

If you like Christopher Moore and Jasper Fforde, you'll like Dan H. Kind's first novel. Mythological and literary figures converge in the historic reproduction town of Eden (reminiscent of but not quite like Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia) where the end of the world as we know it may be at hand. The novel is extremely well-written and displays the author's vast knowledge of mythology and religion, and the tone is light and humorous throughout. Try it -- you'll like it! Hoping for more to come from this author.

Delightfully wacky yarn with a mythological flair

Jack Whiskey a pseudo-alchemist living in tourist-trap Colonial Eden, Virginia, on the Jims River and home to the College of Bill and Gary, gets himself blown up 8 times a day to the delight of the many tourists. He has forgotten that he really is Native American trickster Wesakaychak, but is forced to remember when Hades, ruler of the underworld decides to do away with all universes, leaving only himself.
With allies Zen Master Mirbodi (who may really be Bodhidharma),Persephone, Charon, monster dogs Cerberus and Herberus,Prometheus and Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, modern secular mythical characters, Jack sets out to thwart a diabolical plot in which humans are given to drink (beer) from the Fountain of Youth, upsetting the balance of the universe and causing Shiva as Nataraja, Lord of the Dance, to dance all of creation out of existence.
The author has held the plot together with a very able hand and a deep-reaching knowledge of mythology, and has created a wonderfully funny book. If you enjoy fantasy and satire, this tale is definitely for you!

The Fountain of Eden: A Fountain of Laughs

This is a work of pure fantasy. If that's your bag, you're going to love it. Dan Hand has produced a little masterpiece of far, far-out humor. It's well-plotted, well-written and the characters-an all time (well, as far back as Greek mythology, anyway) cast of demons, demi-gods, Amerindian Tricksters and literary personalities-are as delightful a crowd of troublemakers and trouble fixers as you will ever come across. At the price, it's the buy of the year.
